The Sights & Sounds Exhibition 2010
The exhibition was officially opened by Camilla Hampshire, Museum Manger of The Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter & The Mayor of Newton Abbot on the 9th March 2010.
Pride of place is 2500 year old carved wooden, oak figure, possibly of religious significance. It was discoveredin 1867 by clay workers from Watts, Blakes & Bearne Co. Only six other figures are known to exist.
Another equally fascinating object, (on loan from the Ball Clay Heritage Society) is a very rare, beautifully crafted Bronze age spear-head. It is thought to be 3,000 years old.
The 2010 exhibition is a vibrant mix of photographic images, extracts from the film and oral archives, and objects from the collection.
Last year's very succesful John Lethbridge Exhibition will remain open for a second season, giving visitors the perfect opportunity to visit the full-sized replica of the eighteenth century silver-fisher's 'diving -engine'.
